The Denver Broncos are re-signing safety Kareem Jackson to a one-year deal, according to multiple reports. The contract is worth $5 million, according to KOA Radio’s Brandon Krisztal.
Last week, Broncos general manager George Paton declined Jackson’s contract option, releasing the safety to free agency. Had Paton picked up the option, Jackson would have had a base salary of $10 million in 2021.
After testing the free agency market and seemingly drawing little interest, Jackson will now return to Denver for half of what his option called for.
Paton has now brought back outside linebacker Von Miller and Jackson, gave a four-year extension to safety Justin Simmons, gave a three-year extension to defensive lineman Shelby Harris and signed free agent cornerbacks Ronald Darby and Kyle Fuller. The Broncos’ defense looks really good on paper.
Over the last two seasons in Denver, Jackson totaled 160 tackles, 14 pass breakups, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one defensive touchdown. He will start across from Simmons in 2021.
