Denver Broncos second-year running back Javonte Williams is not worried about any added responsibilities that may be put on his shoulders this next season.
“Whatever George [Paton] has planned, I’m ready,” said Williams after veteran minicamp on April 26. “If I have to split carries, or if I’m the starter — it doesn’t matter.”
In his first year, Williams showed all the promise of an all-purpose, three-down back. Despite sharing the workload with veteran running back Melvin Gordon, both backs ran for nearly 1,000 yards each.
Williams also wants Denver to have the best running back room in the NFL.
“That’s definitely the goal,” he said.
In regards to Denver resigning Gordon, Williams has his eyes set much higher than his own workload.
“I’m just trying to win a Super Bowl,” Williams said.
The Broncos have already made bounding strides towards that goal with the revamped offense behind quarterback Russell Wilson and offensive-minded head coach Nathaniel Hackett.
This fall, the improvements on paper will have to translate to results on the field, but things are certainly trending in the right direction.
