After being selected by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round of last year’s draft out of Florida, wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland played in 10 games last season, getting most of his snaps on special teams as a returner.
Cleveland has the talent to make an impact on offense, too, through end-around runs and as a receiver. He played against Drew Lock in college, and the receiver has made a good impression on Denver’s quarterback.
“[I’ve seen] kind of the same things I saw when we were playing him at Missouri,” Lock said on June 15. “Just a dominant guy out there. You always like throwing the ball to guys when it leaves your hand and you’re really confident they’re going to go up and get it, regardless of the situation they’re in. That’s kind of the guy that Tyrie’s becoming.
“We’re getting comfortable with him having the ball in his hand, like you said running the reverse — he’s just a playmaker. I think we’re finally starting to see a little bit more of that as he gets opportunities to make those plays.”
Cleveland will face a tough battle for a roster spot this summer as the Broncos have a crowded WR room, but Lock seems to believe the play-making receiver will take advantage of his opportunities at camp.
