The Denver Broncos have promoted quarterback Brett Rypien from the practice squad to the active roster, the team announced Tuesday.
Denver had an open spot on the 53-man roster for Rypien after placing linebacker Jonas Griffith on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Griffith will be eligible to return from IR after three weeks.
Rypien drew interest from another NFL team, so the Broncos promoted the QB so they wouldn’t lose him to another team’s active roster, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.
Rypien is now the third quarterback on Denver’s 53-man roster, joining starter Teddy Bridgewater and backup Drew Lock.
The Broncos also announced Tuesday that wide receiver KJ Hamler (knee) has been placed on injured reserve. Hamler won’t return this season.
To fill Hamler’s former spot on the roster, Denver signed wide receiver David Moore off the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad. Moore will likely serve as the team’s No. 3 receiver behind Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick.
