The league announced the first “Thursday Night Football” game of the season during Round 1 of the NFL draft on Thursday evening — the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2 on Sept. 15.
The full NFL schedule will be announced next month, but there will be multiple mini announcements like Thursday’s between now and the full announcement on May 12.
Had the Denver Broncos been picked for “TNF” in Week 2, that presumably would have meant they were not selected for the NFL’s season opener. There’s still no guarantee Denver will play in the opener, but it remains a possibility following the Chiefs-Chargers announcement for Week 2.
As the defending Super Bowl champions, the Los Angeles Rams are set to host the opener in a special edition of NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” on Thursday, Sept. 8. The Rams are among the Broncos’ road opponents this season and new quarterback Russell Wilson is one of L.A.’s old rivals.
Another notable opponent on the Ram’s schedule is the Buffalo Bills, a true contender in the AFC, so that would be an intriguing matchup as well.
The speculation will continue for two more weeks.
