Broncos' preseason format will change in 2021

March 31, 2021 by Broncos Wire Leave a Comment

The NFL announced Tuesday a switch to a 17-game regular season that will begin this fall. In addition to adding an extra regular season game, the league also announced that preseason will be reduced from four to three games.

This year, AFC teams (including the Denver Broncos) will host their extra regular season game, giving them 10 total home games (nine in the regular season and one in the preseason). AFC teams will play two preseason games on the road this summer.

NFC teams will also host 10 total games, eight in the regular season and two in preseason. The format will rotate in 2022 — NFC teams will get an extra regular season home game and AFC teams will get two preseason home games.

This year, the Broncos’ extra regular season home game will be against the Detroit Lions (view the team’s complete list of 2021 opponents here). Denver’s preseason opponents are yet to be announced, but the Arizona Cardinals are usually on the team’s summer schedule.
