Broncos OLB Randy Gregory aiming for Week 1 return

August 17, 2022 by Broncos Wire

After signing a five-year, $70 million contract in March, Denver Broncos outside linebacker Randy Gregory sat out all of the team’s offseason and program and training camp while recovering from a shoulder procedure.

Gregory was on the team’s physically unable to perform list for all of camp before being activated this week, making him one step closer to returning. The Broncos won’t rush the recovery process, but the pass rusher is aiming to return in time for the team’s season opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 12.

“That’s the plan,” Gregory said Monday. “Today is a big step going out there and doing individual. At the end of the day, the plan is to be ready for Week 1.”

The procedure was a setback for Gregory’s offseason, but it should have a positive long-term impact for the player and team.

“It was something that I as dealing with for two, maybe three years now,” Gregory said. “It got to the point where it was hindering my play, so it was definitely something important to do long-term for the team.

“I got it taken care of and I’m glad it’s in the past. I’m still working through some kinks, but I should be ready to go.”

Before joining the Broncos this offseason, Gregory totaled 52 quarterback hits and 16.5 sacks in 50 games with the Dallas Cowboys.
