Broncos OLB Malik Reed watches film of these pass rushers to improve his game

July 21, 2021 by Broncos Wire Leave a Comment

Malik Reed practices with Von Miller and Bradley Chubb every day, so he gets a close look at Pro Bowl-level pass rushing at every practice. He still looks to outside sources for inspiration and technique tips, though.

“Shaq [Barrett) is a guy I would watch,” Reed said on June 3. “[He’s] similar to me. Even before I got here, I would watch older guys like Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney. Guys that were a little shorter in stature but really affected the game in a major way. I’ll watch the top guys around the league like T.J. Watt and some of the guys that are the top and that everybody watches — Aaron Donald and how he disrupts the game.

“It’s other guys that I’ll watch around the league and guys that have been doing it for a long time and been consistently great at pass rush, Chandler Jones [is] a guy that has been at the top of the sack charts each and every year. He didn’t play last year, but that is a guy that I’ll watch. We get the sack tape every week. It has all the sacks from around the league. That’s something I’ll watch throughout the week and try to see how they are affecting the game.”

Reed also attended Miller’s Pass Rush Summit in Las Vegas this summer, which provided a great opportunity to “link and learn” with other rushers. Picking up tips and tricks from pass rushers across the league should only help Reed continue to improve in the coming years.
