Broncos Wire‘s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at rookie defensive end Eyioma Uwazurike, No. 96.
Before the Broncos: Uwazurike (6-6, 316 pounds) played for Iowa State in college. He earned a first-team All-Big 12 honors notice his final collegiate season, totaling 42 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and nine sacks in 13 games (10 starts). He earned two honorable mention notices prior to that as well. And during the draft process. Uwazurike drew comparisons to Corey Williams. The latter was a nine-year defensive tackle that appeared in 126 games (74 starts) in his career.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Uwazurike is basically a lock to make the team as a fourth-round pick in last month’s NFL draft. His competition for playing time most notably includes DeShawn Williams, Dre’Mont Jones and Matt Henningsen. Basically, Uwazurike can have as big a role as he can handle during his rookie season. A starting spot is there for the taking. Only Jones is solidified in his role.
