Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at fourth-year defensive end Dre’Mont Jones, No. 93.
Before the Broncos: In college, Jones (6-3, 281 pounds) was a perennial starter in the Big 10, starting 37 of 39 games for Ohio State. He racked up 115 tackles, 9.5 sacks, two defensive touchdowns, one interception and three fumble recoveries.
Jones then ran a 40-yard dash in 5.12 seconds and ran the shuttle in 4.53 seconds at the 2019 NFL combine before being selected by Denver in the third round of the draft.
Broncos tenure: Jones has been a seasoned started for the Broncos, finishing with 5.5 sacks in 2021. In his second season, Jones had a career year in tackles, sacks and sack yards, playing in 13 games with eight starts. Jones has established himself as a valuable asset to the defense, giving Denver a solid run-stopper and rusher.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Jones has proven himself time and again to be a very good defensive player and he seems to be essentially a lock to make the roster. Entering a contract year, Jones will aim to have a big season this fall before becoming a free agent in 2023.
