Broncos Wire‘s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at the Denver Broncos’ rookie defensive end Matt Henningsen, No. 91.
Before the Broncos: Henningsen (6-3, 289 pounds) was a walk-on-turned-scholarship-recipient. Coming off an injury in 2020, he earned a third-team all-conference notice in his final collegiate season, totaling 34 tackles, six tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 13 starts.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Henningsen, a sixth-round rookie, is a long-shot at playing the majority of snaps on the defensive line next season. That said, he just has to not no-show during OTAs and the preseason to backup the presumed starter at defensive end, Dre’Mont Jones.
Although at worst, based on the upside as a young player, Henningsen is a practice squad player for the Broncos next season. Here’s a fun fact: Henningsen and fellow rookie CB Faion Hicks were college teammates at The University of Wisconsin-Madison.
