Broncos Wire‘s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at Denver Broncos sixth-year offensive lineman Garett Bolles, No. 72.
Broncos tenure: Bolles (6-5, 300 pounds) was a first-round pick in 2017 for the Broncos. Originally considered a bust by the football conglomerate, the offensive tackle finally made the leap in his fourth season. Perhaps it was then-Broncos general manager John Elway not exercising Bolles’ fifth-year option that lit a fire in him. Or maybe it was then-offensive line coach Mike Munchak’s tutelage. Probably both.
Hired in 2019, Munchak helped Bolles begin to turn his career around. And when Bolles did not have the fifth-year option on his rookie deal exercised, the tackle had his best season in 2020. The end result: Bolles inked a four-year, $68 million contract extension mid-season. In his first three seasons, Bolles never missed a game. To date, he’s missed just four games in five seasons. A minor storyline to watch next season is Bolles’ play following Munchak’s depature. .
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Bolles, 30, is a lock to make the roster as the Broncos’ starting left tackle. No need to waste words on it.
