Broncos offseason roster: No. 49, ILB Alex Singleton

June 28, 2022 by Broncos Wire

Broncos Wire‘s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at Denver Broncos fourth-year inside linebacker Alex Singleton, No. 49.

Before the Broncos: Singleton (6-2, 240 pounds) played college football at Montana State. In his final collegiate season back in 2014, he totaled 136(!) total tackles, 15 tackles for losses, two sacks, a forced fumble, an interception, a QB hit and four pass breakups. Foreshadowing his Broncos tenure, Singleton totaled two blocked kicks on special teams as well.

Unfortunately for Singleton, he went undrafted during the 2015 NFL draft. He latched on to three NFL teams’ practice squads, but did not play a snap in a game. After that, Singleton played in the CFL for three seasons. Fighting through adversity, the inside linebacker finally got called up to the big leagues by the Philadelphia Eagles before the 2019 season.

Singleton played three seasons with the Eagles before signing with the Broncos this offseason. In 16 games last year, he totaled 76 total tackles, an interception, four pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Chances to make the 53-man roster: Singleton, a California native, will compete for a starting spot at inside linebacker during training camp. He’s presumably a lock to make the 53-man roster because of his special teams ability, and he could provide depth at ILB if he doesn’t win a starting spot.
