Broncos Wire‘s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at Denver Broncos fifth-year inside linebacker Josey Jewell, No. 47.
Before the Broncos: Josey Jewell (6-1, 236 pounds) played college football at the University of Iowa. He appeared in 50 games during his four-year career. Jewell totaled 437 total tackles, 28 tackles for losses, six interceptions, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a blocked punt.
Broncos tenure: Jewell, an Iowa native, was drafted by the Broncos in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL draft. Drafted on Day 3 of the draft, the inside linebacker has clearly outplayed his draft position. Before being limited to just two games due to injury last season, Jewell appeared in 47 of a possible 48 games (28 starts) in the three seasons prior. In that span, he totaled 117 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, and two fumble recoveries.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Fresh off signing a two-year, $11 million contract this offseason, Jewell is going to start at one of the two inside linebacker spots this season. That leaves fellow inside linebackers Jonas Griffith, Alex Singleton and Barrington Wade presumably competing for the other starting inside linebacker spot this summer.
Jewell appears to be a lock for the 53-man roster.
