Broncos offseason roster: No. 45, OLB Christopher Allen

July 9, 2022 by Broncos Wire

Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at rookie outside linebacker Christopher Allen, No. 45.

Before the Broncos: Christopher Allen was a teammate of several current Denver players, including Pat Surtain and Jerry Jeudy at the University of Alabama. Allen first saw action in legendary coach Nick Saban’s defense in his freshman year, playing in three games. During his sophomore year, he increased production to seven games, before playing in 11 games his junior year. In his junior year, Allen finished in the top 10 in the SEC in three categories: tackles for losses (finishing as the leader with 13), sacks (fourth) and forced fumbles (fifth).

Broncos tenure: Allen has yet to play a down for the Broncos, as he was signed as an undrafted free agent after the 2022 NFL draft. In his NFL draft profile, Allen was projected to be a fourth-round draft pick, which he likely would have been had it not been for two debilitating injuries to his knee and foot as a senior.

Chances to make the 53-man roster: Allen joins a crowded group of outside linebackers vying for roster spots. This could be a very interesting battle going into camp. Allen may not be a lock for the Broncos’ initial roster, but he could find a role on special teams, as a backup or on another team in the NFL. Denver might also consider him a potential practice squad candidate. Allen has tremendous talent when healthy. Can he harness that ability going into 2022?
