Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at rookie cornerback Faion Hicks, No. 29.
Before the Broncos: Hicks (5-10, 192 pounds) totaled 107 tackles, 16 pass breakups and one interception in four years at Wisconsin (44 games, 39 starts). He earned honorable mention All-Big Ten recognition after his junior and senior seasons in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
Broncos tenure: Denver picked Hicks in the seventh round of the NFL draft in April. He’ll make his Bronco debut during preseason.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Hicks could make an immediate impact on special teams, which will help his chances of making the team. The Broncos have a crowded cornerback depth chart, though, so he’s certainly not a lock.
Pat Surtain, Ronald Darby, K’Waun Williams, Michael Ojemudia, Damarri Mathis, Essang Bassey and Bless Austin are among the players above Hicks on the depth chart, so he’s facing an up-hill battles. If he’s not able to make the 53-man roster this year, Hicks would be a great candidate for the practice squad in 2022.
