Broncos offseason roster: No. 28, RB Damarea Crockett

July 18, 2022 by Broncos Wire

Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at second-year running back Damarea Crockett, No. 28.

Before the Broncos: Crockett (5-11, 225 pounds) was a productive running back at Missouri, rushing 380 times for 2,252 yards and 19 touchdowns in three seasons (28 games). He also caught 21 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns in college.

Crockett went undrafted in 2019 and then signed with the Houston Texans as a college free agent. After failing to make the Texans’ 53-man roster, Crockett spent time on the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad. He later part of the 2019 and 2020 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, but did not appear in any regular season games.

Broncos tenure: About a month after he was cut by the Packers in 2020, Crockett joined Denver’s practice squad. He started the 2021 season on the practice squad and was elevated to the active roster multiple times during the season, appearing in 12 games, primarily on special teams.

Chances to make the 53-man roster: The Broncos’ top three running back spots are set with Javonte Williams, Melvin Gordon and Mike Boone all returning. So the team would have to carry four RBs for Crockett to make the 53-man roster.

If Denver decides to only carry three RBs on the active roster, Crockett would be an excellent candidate for the practice squad this season.
