Jeremy Fowler and his ESPN colleagues recently interviewed NFL executives, coaches, scouts and players to have them rank their top players at each position across the league.
ESPN published the results for the tight end rankings on Thursday, and Denver Broncos rising star Noah Fant did not make the cut (subscription required for link). Fant did make the “honorable mention” list, though.
“One of the most explosive players on this list,” an unnamed AFC scout told ESPN. “I think we will be having a far different conversation about him a year from now; [he’ll be] high on this list. Not quite there yet.”
Elsewhere in the AFC West, Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs is ranked No. 2 and Darren Waller of the Las Vegas Raiders is ranked No. 3. Former Los Angeles Chargers tight end Hunter Henry, who now plays for the New England Patriots, is ranked No. 7.
Zach Ertz, who is now 30 and coming off an underwhelming season, is among the players who made the list over Fant.
In 11 games last season, Ertz caught 36 passes for 335 yards and one touchdown. Fant played in 15 games last year, totaling 62 receptions for 673 yards and three scores.
