Broncos made 3 roster moves before the start of training camp

July 28, 2021 by Broncos Wire Leave a Comment

Before they began training camp practices on Wednesday, the Denver Broncos made three roster moves on Tuesday.

First, the Broncos signed safety Tedric Thompson, a four-year veteran who most recently played for the Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns. Denver had room on the roster for Thompson after parting ways with wide receiver Damion Willis last week.

In addition to signing Thompson, the Broncos also signed veteran offensive lineman Brett Jones. Denver had early interest in Jones when NFL free agency began in March, but it took several months before he signed.

Jones can play either as a guard or as a center. After a decorated career in Canada, Jones moved to the NFL in 2015. He most recently played for the Minnesota Vikings from 2018-2020.

To make room for Jones on the 90-man offseason roster, the Broncos waived center Patrick Morris, marking the third move the team made Tuesday. Denver has a crowded center room that now includes candidates Lloyd Cushenberry, Quinn Meinerz, Jones and Austin Schlottmann. Meinerz, Jones and Schlottmann can also play as guards.
