The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms on a four-year contract with rookie linebacker Baron Browning, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Browning was one of two players selected by the Broncos in the third round of the NFL draft in April (offensive lineman Quinn Meinerz was the other).
Browning (6-3, 240 pounds) will earn $4,785,850 over the next four seasons, according to OverTheCap.com. That’s an average of just over $1.19 million per season.
Browning was sidelined for much of the spring with an injury, which hurt his chances of claiming a position. Browning might now be unlikely to start on defense in Week 1, but he appears poised to serve as a key special teams player for Denver as a rookie.
Browning is a versatile defender who can play at outside or inside linebacker. The Broncos seem to view him as a long-term option at inside linebacker, but he might have to wait until 2022 to earn a starting job.
