The Broncos linebacker talked with the guys from DNVR and provided an update on his recovery from the ACL injury that ended his season last year.

Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton’s 2024 season was cut short after he suffered a torn ACL during their win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers early in the season. The veteran linebacker met with the guys at DNVR and provided an update on his rehab from this injury and his excitement to play with newly signed linebacker Dre Greenlaw.

Singleton told DNVR’s Zac Stevens that his recovery is going good, he feels like he’s on schedule, and he is working his way into doing things with his teammates. When asked to give a timetable for when he’ll be ready to go, Singleton said he can’t fully say when that will be (Sean Payton’s rules on injuries), but did leave Broncos fans with some good news. He said that there should be “no worries about 49 playing this year”.

This is good news after the Broncos’ linebackers struggled after Singleton went down. While Cody Barton and Justin Strnad both had their moments last season, ultimately, the Broncos’ linebackers were a weakness on the defense that teams began to exploit late in the year. With that in mind, the Broncos’ decision makers, Sean Payton and George Paton, made the linebacker position an emphasis this offseason. They quickly addressed that need by signing former 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw in free agency. He is coming off an achilles injury that he suffered during the 49ers’ loss to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl a little over a year ago, but when healthy, he is a stud linebacker.

Pairing a healthy Dre Greenlaw with a healthy Alex Singleton should give the Broncos an improved linebacker room than the one they had last season. Singleton was asked about the addition of Greenlaw, and he told Stevens that he is “really excited”. He said he and Greenlaw have spent a lot of time together working out, and all they have talked about is how excited they are about getting after it this upcoming season. He continued by saying a lot of guys, including people in the building, were not expecting this much emphasis on the defensive side of the ball, and considering how they played last year, he’s “really really excited” about this defense.

The Broncos have made a ton of additions to the defensive side of the ball during the offseason. They signed linebacker Dre Greenlaw, his 49ers teammate, safety Talanoa Hufanga, and drafted corner Jahdae Barron in the first round of the draft. They also re-signed nose tackle D.J. Jones, getting Alex Singleton back, and drafted two developmental pass rushers in Sai’vion Jones and Que Robinson.

This defense has the potential to be as good as the 2015 Super Bowl-winning defense, and that is what Singleton and the Broncos’ defensive players are chasing this upcoming season.
