The Denver Broncos wrapped up their first week or organized team activities last week with nine players either absent or sidelined.
The most notable absence was that of wide receiver Courtland Sutton, who is skipping OTAs while seeking a new contract. Broncos coach Sean Payton brushed off Sutton’s holdout as no big deal.
Denver defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers was excused for personal reasons, according to the Denver Gazette‘s Chris Tomasson.
Fellow defensive lineman D.J. Jones was out with an illness, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Six other players were sidelined with injuries.
Broncos safety Caden Sterns has a knee injury; tight end Greg Dulcich is still working his way back from hamstring/foot injuries, safety Delarrin Turner-Yell is recovering from last season’s torn ACL; linebacker Drew Sanders is rehabbing from a torn Achilles; cornerback Pat Surtain has a “minor” pulled leg muscle and running back Audric Estimé seemingly also suffered a leg pull at practice.
Overall, the Broncos are in decent health going into the second week of OTAs. There are two more windows of OTAs on deck (May 28-30 and June 3-6), followed by mandatory minicamp (June 11-13). Players will then get a summer break before reporting back for the start of training camp in late July.
