The Denver Broncos have until March 16 to make a decision on Von Miller’s contract option for the 2021 season. If the Broncos decline the option, Miller will become an unrestricted free agent.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano recently speculated that the option might not be picked up, listing Miller among Denver’s potential offseason cuts. Graziano’s apparent prediction got twisted into a report on social media, which led to clarification from media members close to the team.
“Nothing has been decided” on Miller’s option, KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis tweeted Wednesday. Added KOA Radio’s Benjamin Allbright: “No one has contacted Von’s representatives or Von with any decision (because no decision has been made).”
Declining Miller’s option remains a possibility, but such a decision hasn’t been made yet. One possible alternative for the Broncos would be to restructure Miller’s contract or give him an extension to help lower his salary cap hit.
If his option is picked up, Miller will earn $22.225 million in 2021. If Denver cuts the star edge defender, the team will save $18 million in cap space.
