Broncos had a virtual pre-draft meeting with kicker Evan McPherson

The Denver Broncos recently had a virtual pre-draft visit with Florida kicker Evan McPherson, according to The Draft Network’s Justin Melo.

McPherson (5-11, 185 pounds) is widely considered the top kicker prospect in this year’s NFL draft. After leading the SEC with a career field goal percentage of 85.0 (50 attempts minimum), McPherson decided to forgo his senior season to enter the 2021 NFL draft.

He went 51-of-60 on field goal attempts and 149-of-150 on extra point attempts in three seasons with the Gators, totaling 302 points. McPherson had a career-long of 55 yards at Florida, tying the third-longest FG in school history. He converted four 50-plus-yard field goals in 2020, setting a Gators single-season record.

The Broncos taking a look at McPherson isn’t necessarily bad news for Brandon McManus, who signed a four-year, $17.2 million extension last fall. For now, McManus’ job appears to be safe.

Denver might just be doing its due diligence on McPherson for when the Broncos potentially face him in the future or for when the kicker potentially becomes a free agent four years down the road. McManus is scheduled to become a 34-year-old free agent in 2025.
