The Denver Broncos went 5-11 in 2020 and missed the playoffs yet again. The Broncos are now the only team in NFL history to miss the postseason five-straight seasons after winning a Super Bowl.
With historically bad numbers like that, it’s understandable that many fans in Denver aren’t feeling very optimistic about the franchise. Broncos defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones delivered a message of optimism to those fans after Week 17.
“When you look back at those games, a lot of those games were close and very competitive,” Jones said on Jan. 3. “There were times in the second half we didn’t come out sharp, but in total, with the way we played and how competitive we are, we definitely showed that we are willing and a team that’s streaking forward — what are we the sixth youngest team in the NFL?
“We’re extremely young, especially at receiver so I think the sky is the limit for us. We have a lot of good guys, a lot of good, young players that we can build our foundation with. I think next year should be a much better year.”
Jones totaled 38 tackles, 6.5 sacks and two pass breakups in 2020. He’s part of a young core of players who will aim to turn the ship around in 2021 and return to the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
