Broncos coach Vic Fangio aims to get Kyle Fuller back to 2018 form

March 25, 2021 by Broncos Wire Leave a Comment

Vic Fangio served as Kyle Fuller’s defensive coordinator for four seasons with the Chicago Bears. In their last year together in 2018, Fuller made the Pro Bowl after leading the NFL with 21 pass breakups and seven interceptions.

That was three years ago, and Fuller has aged since then, but Fangio hopes to get the cornerback close to that kind of form again in 2021.

“We’re going to do everything we can to get Kyle back to that 2018 form,” Fangio said after Fuller signed a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos earlier this week. “I know he’s excited to be here. He’s a really good person and he’s a good teammate which is good to have and good to add to your building. We’re excited to have him.”

Fuller himself didn’t want to compare 2021 to 2018, but he always aims to play at a high level.

“Every year is different,” the cornerback said. “I’m going to always try to go out there and be my best. That’s something I can shoot for. It’s really to just go out there and be my best.”

Fuller’s familiarity with Fangio’s scheme should help him quickly transition into Denver’s defense.

“I feel like that helps a lot with me being familiar with the defense,” he said. “I’ll be stepping in and not having to learn anything. That will keep us moving. They are great guys and great players, and I think we will do well.”

Last year, Fuller broke up eight passes and totaled one interception.
