After he was selected by the Denver Broncos in the third round of last year’s NFL draft out of Iowa, cornerback Michael Ojemudia chose jersey No. 23. Ojemudia had previously worn No. 11 with the Hawkeyes, but NFL rules do not allow defensive backs to wear numbers in the teens.
Last week, the Broncos added three players who all wore No. 23 in 2020: running back Mike Boone and cornerbacks Ronald Darby and Kyle Fuller. If he wants to, Ojemudia might now be able to listen to offers for the number, accepting the highest bid.
Darby has previously worn numbers 28, 41 and 21 in the NFL. He wore numbers 13 and 3 while at Florida State, which might be a sign that he likes having 3 in his number.
Fuller has worn No. 23 his entire NFL career and he wore No. 17 while playing at Virginia Tech. Boone wore No. 44 for part of his tenure with the Minnesota Vikings and numbers 5 and 27 while at Cincinnati.
Ojemudia won’t be obligated to give up his number, and there’s a chance that the Broncos’ new signings could find new numbers similar to what they’ve worn at different points in this careers.
Darby could pick No. 21, which is currently available in Denver. Boone could take the available No. 44 and Fuller might be interested in No. 27.
We’ll post the latest jersey number updates as they become available.
