Denver Broncos slot cornerback Duke Dawson was carted off the field in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers after suffering a knee injury. It was a non-contact injury and the team quickly announced that Dawson will not return.
With Dawson sidelined, Will Parks will fill in at slot cornerback.
Dawson totaled two tackles before exiting the game with an injury.
Denver was already thin at cornerback going into the game, with A.J. Bouye (suspended), Bryce Callahan (injured reserve) and Essang Bassey (injured reserve) all sidelined. Those were the Broncos’ top three cornerbacks.
Denver’s new top three cornerbacks are Michael Ojemudia and De’Vante Bausby on the outside with Parks in the slot. Kevin Toliver II is the only true cornerback on the roster remaining behind Ojemudia and Bausby.
Safeties Alijah Holder, P.J. Locke, and Trey Marshall can also fill in at cornerback if needed. The Broncos are currently leading 6-0.
