Many pundits would probably agree that Denver Broncos defender Alexander Johnson is among the most underrated inside linebackers in the NFL. But few — if any — would say Johnson is the best.
The third-year linebacker aims to change that this fall.
“My expectations are always high for myself,” Johnson said on June 6. “That’s the way I’ve been brought up and raised. My goal is always to be the No. 1 inside linebacker in the league. So that’s what I’m [going to] work for each game. If I end up accomplishing that, I’ll end up being able to be the best teammate for my team to my personal ability and I can carry it over to helping the team be a better team.”
Johnson has stacked up tackles — 217 over the last two seasons — but he wants to improve his stats in other categories to earn more recognition.
“I have to accumulate more interceptions and I have to accumulate more forced fumbles and generate more [takeaways],” Johnson said. “I feel like that will be able to put me over the top as one of the best.”
Since 2019, Johnson has totaled four forced fumbles and one interception.
