Here is the good, the bad, and the ugly from the Denver Broncos 2024 regular season schedule that released today.
The NFL has announced its 2024 regular season schedule and the Denver Broncos were seemingly a target for retribution by the schedule-makers. If you could sit down and create a worse lineup for Denver than the one they received this year, please do share. It seems every stretch of games this season comes with some pain and brutality. Even so, I was able to find at least two good things to point out to go with the rest that were either bad or very bad.
Let’s review!
The Good
Week 2 vs. Russell Wilson
Getting Russell Wilson in Denver early in the season is really best case scenario. He has tended to start out slow, especially when dealing with a new coach and/or coordinator. He’ll be looking for revenge, but maybe that will turn into some costly turnovers in front of a rabid home crowd. I definitely put facing Wilson in Week 2 into the good column.
The month of October
This is the month that will set a good tone for Denver heading into the rest of the brutal schedule that is the 2024 season. If they can somehow come out of November with a clean sweep at home against the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, and Carolina Panthers, while also taking down the New Orleans Saints on the road, then they could be in prime position to make a run in the playoffs. However, come out of that stretch .500 and its probably over.
The Bad
The month of September
Not an ideal way to start the season for the Broncos. Three of the first four games are on the road against middle-tier football teams. Those are games you’d like at home to give you an slight advantage, instead they’ll get that slight advantage over Denver. The only thing that keeps September out of the ‘ugly’ section is that Week 2 home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Bye week yikes
Week 14 Bye? Come on. Will Denver even have a team by then? Stay tuned! I’m joking, of course, but having a bye week that late in the season is definitely going into the ‘bad’ category for my.
The only way this turns ‘good’ is if Denver is sitting with 8-9 wins and primed for a playoff push in the final four games.
The Ugly
Back-to-back road games vs. Ravens/Chiefs
Two early time slotted games against perennial AFC contenders on the road. Not an ideal situation for a team that hasn’t won many games in recent years and starting a first-round rookie quarterback. Those two games look like a painful event to me.
Last four games
If Denver is on the cusp of making it into the wild card round with four games to go, they’ll have to run a gauntlet of strong teams to get over that final hump. The Indianapolis Colts and Chargers won’t be easy wins and the Cincinnati Bengals are going to be a good football team with Joe Burrow. That leaves the season finale at home against, you guessed it, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
