After spending the first three seasons in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team could cut linebacker Chad Muma. According to a report, one source believes the “underachieving” former third-rounder is likely the odd man out on the depth chart. Jacksonville has one of the deepest linebacker groups in the league between Foyesade Oluokun and Devin Lloyd, while Ventrell Miller made promising strides, and veteran Dennis Gardeck should have a spot. The team could kick rookie Jalen McLeod to the curb, but it’d be unusual for that to happen, as they’ll probably give him a chance due to his potential.
As for Muma, the Jaguars might have seen enough and could decide to release him. Originally selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Wyoming product has been more of a special teams guy than he is a linebacker. Due to the other rookie, Jack Kiser’s preseason game performance, most likely puts the icing on the cake for Muma’s stint in Jacksonville. Unfortunately, all things must come to an end, but the good news for Muma is that he should receive interest from several teams if he becomes a free agent.
He isn’t going to be the best guy out there, but these three teams might be able to give him one last round in the league to see what he could do as a backup and on special teams.

Breaking: Jaguars Urged to Cut Former Third-Round Pick Chad Muma – 3 Potential Destinations
Possible Next Teams
Dallas Cowboys
With the signing of Jack Sanborn and the trade acquisition of Kenneth Murray Jr., the Dallas Cowboys have a bunch of linebackers with untapped potential. Marist Liufau showed some flashes and strides that he could be a reliable linebacker, but there is room for improvement in the depth chart. The Cowboys are always going on a bargain grab for free agents, which they did earlier this offseason, and it shouldn’t be surprising if they do the same before the 2025 campaign begins.
Muma could be a solid tackler alongside the three frontrunners of this linebacker unit as long as he gets the best opportunities to play at his peak.
Carolina Panthers
Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers have finally been able to improve their defense this offseason after reshaping their offense and going through trial-and-error. Despite signing Tershawn Wharton and Bobby Brown to provide some life for Derrick Brown’s return, the Panthers should have the same energy for their linebacker room. The team let go of Josey Jewell due to injury concerns and veteran Jadeveon Clowney because of aging. Muma isn’t going to be a modern-day Luke Kuechly out there, but at least they have something to help new free agent signee Christian Rozeboom and others a part of this core group.
Denver Broncos
In the AFC, the Denver Broncos have one of the most talented linebacker groups in the league, with Nik Bonitto, Alex Singleton and Alex Singleton. However, it’s never a bad idea to add depth, especially when you’re putting together a spectacular offense for second-year standout quarterback, Bo Nix. Muma might never get the start in Denver, but it gives him experience and the will to improve along one of the most underrated defenses.
