Bo Nix ready to take the next step forward with the Denver Broncos

Despite a quality rookie campaign in 2024, Bo Nix is looking forward to progressing in his second year as quarterback of the Denver Broncos.

For the first time in a long time, Denver Broncos fans don’t need to worry too much with respect to the quarterback position.

Acclimating from the college to the pros offers a steep learning curve to all young players. That’s especially true when it comes to signal callers. It’s quite rare to see a rookie at the position come in and exert great command over an offense. Nevertheless, Nix performed admirably and exceeded most reasonable expectations anyone could have had of him.

After a rocky start and immense struggles in the first quarter of the season, he showed flashes of brilliance and steadily improved as the weeks went on. Statistically, it was one of the best initial years for a signal caller in history. Overall, his efforts etched himself into franchise and league record books and were a key part of the team’s ability to make the postseason for the first time in nearly a decade.

With one year of quality experience under his belt and an offseason of mental preparation and studying the playbook, Nix feels good about his progression to date. Moreover, feels much more comfortable and in the swing of things compared to his first days on the gridiron at Dove Valley.

“I feel like I’m a lot further along. Just spitting out play calls a lot easier and just processing. Being around ‘VJ’ (Defensive Coordinator Vance Joseph) for a year and understanding the defense that I’m going to get,” stated Nix.

Going up against the Broncos’ top-tier defense which ranked highly in metrics across the league will continue to be beneficial for Nix as his pro journey continues. To be at your best, you need to play against the best, and he will certainly be doing that all summer long. Not only that, but the additions made through free agency and the draft will most certainly help him for his sophomore campaign.

With Evan Engram, the Broncos found themselves a tight end capable of playing in-line or in the slot. That sort of versatility and reliability should pay big dividends for Nix and the Broncos offense, who often struggled to convert key third downs and sustain drives last season. By drafting RJ Harvey, the team hopes they have their new lead running back who can hit the ground running. They also added wide receiver Pat Bryant into the fold, who will have an opportunity to help take Denver’s aerial attack to the next level.

When you factor in the coaching continuity and bringing back one of the league’s best offensive lines, there are a lot of reasons for Nix to be optimistic and confident. The team is a lot more talented than last year’s incarnate. However, he still knows he and the team’s core of young offensive players have a lot of work to do in order to meet their goals this coming season.

“We have a lot to prove, and we have a lot to go out there and do. It’s people like that who keep you in check. It’s teammates that have your back and continue to motivate you because he’s right,” the second-year quarterback proclaimed.

“I haven’t done anything up until this point, and I have a lot to prove and a lot of show. Every day it’s working. Every day, it’s finding a way to get better. You don’t want to get to Year 2 or go down the road, and all of a sudden you got stuck and didn’t get any better. So that’s my focus right now. It’s not even worrying about what people say. Just internally, I know I have a long way to go,” added Nix.

While Nix may feel he hasn’t accomplished anything thus far, he most certainly has. Though I admire his humility and embracement of competition from the words above. For just entering his second season, he appears to be wise beyond his years and is approaching the game like a seasoned veteran.

Every player that comes into the league is physically gifted, yet very few have the mental toughness he exhibits. It’s that part of the game that separates the good players for the great ones. Also, a major reason why he poised to take a big step forward in 2025 and help the Broncos get back to being championship contenders.
