In his latest first-round 2021 NFL mock draft for Draft Wire, Luke Easterling has five quarterbacks going off the board before the Denver Broncos go on the clock with the ninth overall pick.
The Jacksonville Jaguars select Trevor Lawrence at No. 1, the New York Jets select Zach Wilson at No. 2, the San Francisco 49ers select Mac Jones at No. 3, the New England Patriots trade up and select Justin Fields at No. 4 and the Chicago Bears trade up to select Trey Lance at No. 8.
That leaves none of the top five QBs to fall to Denver at No. 9, so the team selects Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons in Easterling’s mock.
“The Broncos might make try to trade up for a quarterback, but if they’re unsuccessful, getting to take the first defender off the board isn’t a bad scenario for them,” Easterling wrote.
If Easterling’s prediction of five QBs going off the board in the first eight picks is accurate, general manager George Paton will need to trade up if he’s hoping to secure one of the top QBs in this year’s class.
