San Francisco 49ers vice president of player personnel Adam Peters has been linked to the Denver Broncos’ open general manager position, but no interview requests have been reported yet.
Peters played as a defensive back at UCLA and then served as a graduate assistant for the Bruins before making the jump to the NFL in 2003. Peters started with the New England Patriots as a scouting assistant before joining the Broncos in 2009 as a regional scout.
Peters was promoted to director of college scouting by Denver in 2016 before later joining the 49ers as a V.P. in 2017. In San Francisco, he serves under general manager John Lynch, a former safety who spent the final four years of his playing career with the Broncos.
After hanging up his cleats, Lynch sat in Denver’s draft room with Elway to help prepare for becoming an executive and he was offered positions by late Broncos owner Pat Bowlen “many times” but decided to wait for the perfect situation. He believed the 49ers offered a perfect situation in 2017.
It remains to be seen how Peters will view Denver’s GM opening.
