There won’t be an NFL combine this month, but there are still several key offseason dates that Denver Broncos fans should know about.
Here are four dates to look forward to in the coming weeks, as ESPN’s Field Yates pointed out on Twitter:
- Feb. 23-March 9: Window to apply franchise tag (might apply to Justin Simmons)
- March 15-17: “Legal tampering” window for teams to negotiate with pending free agents (other teams can talk with Broncos players including Simmons and Shelby Harris)
- March 17: Start of NFL free agency (Denver can make roster upgrades with veteran players)
- April 29-May 1: 2021 NFL draft (Broncos own nine picks, including No. 9 overall in the first round)
For Denver specifically, another important window opened last Friday. Starting last week, the Broncos have the option to pick up club options for outside linebacker Von Miller ($7 million guaranteed) and safety Kareem Jackson ($1.5 million guaranteed).
Denver has until March 16 to pick up those options. If the options aren’t exercised, Miller and Jackson will both become unrestricted free agents on March 17. Both players are key defenders for the Broncos but Miller will turn 32 next month and Jackson is set to turn 33 in April.
