The Broncos needed a punter with Matt Haack the only one on the roster, and they got the top punter in the draft in Crawshaw.
Crawshaw is an Australian-born punter with a big-time leg who is now the favorite to be the Broncos’ starting punter moving forward. He averaged 46.4 yards during his four-year career at Florida and now will look to continue that in Denver with the Broncos.
He is a 6’4”, 198-pound punter who was viewed as the top punter in the draft and now joins the Broncos. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein says Crawshaw can be highly effective when protected and can drop punts inside or near the opponent’s 10-yard line.
A four-year punter for the Gators, Crawshaw flashes good power from a quick delivery but will need to improve his hang time to keep NFL returners from chopping at his net average. He can be highly effective when he’s protected, with touch punts placing opponents near or inside their own 10-yard line.
Obviously, a punter selection is not the sexiest selection, but it is one that was needed. The Broncos lost Riley Dixon in free agency and were likely adding a punter in the draft. The field position game is an underrated part of a football and hopefully, the Broncos have themselves a good one here in Crawshaw.
