Quarterback tops the list of draft needs for the Denver Broncos, but what other positions do they need to address?
Broncos Country—it’s officially NFL Draft Week and you know what that means. Our annual Mile High Report NFL Draft Roundtable discussions are back!
For our second installment, I wanted to get a pulse on how the staff felt about the current state of the roster and what positions the Denver Broncos needed to address in the 2024 NFL Draft. With that in mind, I asked the staff “What are the three biggest draft needs for the Broncos?”
Ross Allen
Quarterback, obviously. We’ll see if Denver can get lucky with draft position and land their franchise guy.
Defensive line. The Denver run defense was horrible last year and could hardly hold a pop warner team under 100 yards.
Edge. The pass rush hasn’t been at a high level in nearly a decade. It’s time for them to secure a real 1-2 punch rather than hoping that one of their rushers shows up.
Scotty Payne
Quarterback—obviously.
Playmakers! The offense needs playmakers whether that be WR, RB, or TE.
Cornerback and Edge. I think the Broncos could use depth at both positions.
Laurie Lattimore-Volkmann
Quarterback—duh!
Edge — The AFC and specifically AFC West have too many good QBs that need to be under pressure regularly. Broncos need to get that.
Running Back — Our offensive threats are low, and especially if we have a rookie quarterback, Broncos are going to need a running game and multiple receivers to help him out.
Tim Lynch
Quarterback… ahem, obviously.
Interior defensive line. I just don’t like the pressure they generated inside last year or the run stopping ability. They need depth and with a lot of picks in the middle of the draft that would kind of suggest depth will be added here.
Running back. Look, I love Javonte Williams, but I just didn’t see the same guy out there last year. There are a lot of interesting guys that will likely be available in Day 3, so they should go get one.

Ian St. Clair
Quarterback, quarterback and quarterback!
Joe Mahoney
Quarterback, an elite EDGE and cornerback.
Christopher Hart
Quarterback tops the list, but finding upgrades to improve their defensive front comes second. Whether that’s an interior defensive lineman, an edge player, or a defensive end who can bolster their trenches—I’d like to see them focus on getting better in that regard. It was a huge issue for them last season.
I also like Scotty’s idea of finding playmakers on offense. Whether it’s a running back, tight end or wide receiver, the Broncos desperately need to add talent long-term offensively. The Broncos have plenty of Day 3 selections and I think that is an area where they will be able to find prospects at all those positions.
My dark horse need for the team is the offensive line. Garret Bolles is in the final year of his contract. They haven’t drafted a tackle in ages, so I wouldn’t be against that early on in the first-round if they can’t get a quarterback. Finding versatile interior offensive lineman to back-up Ben Powers and Quinn Meinerz would be ideal too.
