Defenceman Tyson Barrie Has Retired from the NHL

Tyson carved out a career following in his father’s footsteps. Len Barrie played over 180 NHL games, and then became a successful business person after his playing days. Len was a part owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Also, he helped begin the successful Victoria, BC Bear Mountain Resort.

As a result of his father’s success Tyson Barrie had been followed closely. He was originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche way back in 2009. He was selected in the third round, 64th overall. Before beginning in professional hockey journey, he had established himself as an offensive threat. Playing for the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets, he was a better than point-per-game player in final two seasons of junior.

His NHL Career

Tyson had a couple years perfecting his craft at the AHL level before becoming a full-time NHLer. In total, he had 822 career regular season games, with 110 goals, 398 assists, totaling 508 points. Throughout his career, he was mostly known for being a bit of a power play specialist. Two different times in his NHL career, he eclipsed 30 power play points in a season. His ability to use deception, smooth skating, and precision passing, allowed him this career.

In his NHL career, he suited up for the Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Nashville Predators, and most recently, the Calgary Flames. Given his father’s influence and also his own excellent offensive mind, there’s likely plenty of options for Tyson to come. Whether he takes a business career path or a hockey related one, he has plenty of references.
