Veteran Dallas Stars Forward Out With a Tough Injury

December 3, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

The Dallas Stars will be without one of their most skilled veterans, scratch that, one of the league’s most talented vets. The news today is that forward Tyler Seguin has an ACL injury. Even though there’s not necessarily anything concrete, but the thinking is this injury will keep him out for some time. Let’s figure out what this means for Seguin and the rest of the Stars team.

Tyler Seguin Out With ACL Injury

Seguin is a 16-year NHL veteran, who earlier this season eclipsed the 1000-game mark. He is a very skilled played, and had popularity right from the outset, as he was the second-overall pick of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Then, for encore, it came in just his rookie NHL campaign. That year, he helped the Boston Bruins capture their first Stanley Cup championship in some 39 years.

Nowadays, he tends to fly under the radar. However, he still commands respect as one of the more dangerous middle-six guys in the league. He has still be posting fine point-per-game rates, even at this point of a long career. Since the beginning of 2023-24, he played 115 games and recorded 90 points. Furthermore, he’s been between 16:09 and 16:40 of ice time in each of the last four seasons. So, he is removed from the once-upon-a-time when he would approach 21 minutes a game, but still, a key part of Dallas’ success and an example of the incredible depth that makes Dallas a perennial Western Conference contender.

You may remember, and based on his lack of total games since 2023-24, he was out long-term last season as well. He had a hip problem that year, but had seemed to bounce back just fine.

What’s the Story from a Dallas Perspective

It is interesting how this will impact the Stars salary cap situation. Yesterday, we learned that defenceman Lian Bichsel will also be out for a while. They have some other injuries of various severity right now as well.

Thomas Harley has been out recently as well. However, it’s not expected to be too long for Harley. His Team Canada availability for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics will not be impacted.

Overall, it has not slowed the horse that is Big D. Now, they’re no Colorado Avalanche, as they continue to hum along at
10-1-2 in their last 13 games. We only mention Colorado because they just reached the record books. They are only the second team in NHL history with one regulation through 26 games. They tied the 1979-80 Philadelphia Flyers, a team more known for their incredible recording-breaking 35-game undefeated streak (25-0-10), with the 10 being ties.
