Game three certainly was a turning point in the second-round 2025 Western Conference Stanley Cup Playoff series between the Edmonton Oilers and the Vegas Golden Knights, and one of the stars ended up getting injured. Vegas captain Mark Stone left the game in the first period with a little over six-minutes to go on the clock with an upper-body injury. This will mean the forward group would be pressed for energy against the high pace Oilers. How can Vegas possibly react?
The cause or when the injury happened may go unknown. This is the playoffs after all. Evan Bouchard did give Stone a couple hits on the power play net-front battle. That was just before the halfway point of the first period. Stone could very well have been battling previous injuries as well, as many players do this time of year.
Update: Mark Stone will not return to tonight’s game due to an upper-body injury.

Mark Stone Leaves Game 3 with Injury
Mark Stone is the type of player that always plays a very intense game. Whether it’s an October game in Nashville or May in Northern Alberta, you’d never know it squaring off against the Winnipeg, Manitoba native. Furthermore, Stone has often been injured throughout his time in the desert. He hasn’t played a full season very often throughout his career. For his sake, we are hoping the injury isn’t significant. In 2024-25, Stone again has dealt with injuries, but played 66 games. That was the most he’s had in a season since 2018-19. That was the year he came over from the Ottawa Senators at the trade deadline.
Just What Does Stone Bring to the Table and How to Replace
This regular season, Stone tallied 19 goals and 48 assists for 67 points. He was very hot to start the season, working hard to earn his addition to the Team Canada 4 Nations roster. Also, he has been productive in the postseason to this point. He has four goals and four assists so far.
Luckily, for Vegas a Mark Stone injury has been something they are prepared to make adjustments for. Having players like Tomas Hertl and William Karlsson there really shows the team’s depth. They can handle the occasional injury. However, if Stone is unable to return to this series, it will be a huge blow towards their efforts of trying to stop Connor McDavid and the Oilers.
