According to local news outlets, the three players were on their way to practice when the accident occurred. Alberta RCMP have said that the crash occurred around 11:00 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 2 and 55 Avenue. The intersection is just north of Stavely. Also, according to reports from news agencies, namely Global News, police responded to a crash involving a semi truck pulling a gravel trailer and a small passenger vehicle. Unfortunately, the three players were pronounced deceased on scene. In a statement from the team read, “There are no words that can adequately express the depth of our grief.”
Stavely is a small town an hour’s drive south of Calgary. It has an approximate population of just over 500 residents. We at Last Word On Hockey would like to offer our deepest condolences and heart felt prayers to the family, friends and community who knew these young men. The hockey community is a very tight knit world, and this will be felt throughout. Even from the NHL, the Calgary Flames offered their kind words. One can’t help but think about the tragedy that struck the Humboldt Broncos, back on April 6th, 2018. Our thoughts are with you all, at this time.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and teammates of the three Southern Alberta Mustangs players who tragically passed away in a motor vehicle accident.
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who knew them ❤️
