Predicting the Vancouver Canucks Kiefer Sherwood’s 2025-26 Season Stats

May 6, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

One of the reasons why the 2024–25 season wasn’t as bleak for Vancouver Canucks fans is because of how great Kiefer Sherwood’s stats were. This was the forward’s first season with Vancouver, having previously played for the Nashville Predators, Colorado Avalanche, and Anaheim Ducks. Many around the NHL heard of Sherwood’s record-breaking hit count. However, Sherwood also surpassed his career highs in goals, assists, points, and games played this season. So, let’s break down each of Sherwood’s stats from 2024–25 and predict whether he’ll finish next season with over or under.

Studying Sherwood’s Deployment

Average time-on-ice in 2024–25: 14:53

Power play time in 2024–25: 64:25

Penalty kill time in 2024–25: 113:42

Will Sherwood play over/under 14:53 per game?: Yes

Will Sherwood have over/under 64:25 on the power play?: No

Will Sherwood have over/under 113:42 on the penalty kill?: Yes

One of Sherwood’s stats from this season that may go unnoticed is his TOI. In the 78 games he played in, Sherwood played 1161:21, which averages out to a career-high 14:53 per game. While the Canucks’ roster has seen lots of movement this season, Sherwood’s total minutes are still the tenth-highest of all skaters. He also has the eighth-highest power play TOI of skaters still on the team by the end of the season with 64:25. In terms of the penalty kill, he had the third-highest minutes played of all forwards.

All three of Sherwood’s deployment stats could rise next season, as the Canucks’ power play and penalty kill could both be losing key pieces. Many have predicted that longtime Canuck Brock Boeser will be testing free agency come July 1. As well, Vancouver has yet to sign Pius Suter to a new contract. While free-agency signings will impact the team’s TOI breakdown, Sherwood’s dependability on all sides of the ice makes him a strong candidate for a boost in minutes. If both players depart in the off-season, Sherwood’s TOI stats could reach another career-high.

Sherwood’s Goal-Scoring Stats

Goals scored in 2024–25: 19

Assists scored in 2024–25: 21

Will Sherwood score over/under 19 goals?: Over

Will Sherwood score over/under 21 assists?: Over

Sherwood was only a hair away from having his first career 20-goal season in 2024–25. His previous career high had been ten, which he tallied in 68 games with Nashville in 2023–24. In the past three seasons, Sherwood’s offensive stats have begun to rise. Sherwood’s playing time stats also indicate that he could hit the 20-goal mark in 2025–26. Despite not scoring a single power play goal this season, Sherwood still got over an hour on the man-advantage. He also spent some time on Elias Pettersson’s wing. Even with a healthy roster, Sherwood was still given some offensive matchups and minutes this season.

One spot that Sherwood could contest for coming into 2025–26 is on Filip Chytil’s wing. The speed centre expects to be healthy come the start of the new season. While Vancouver’s top-six is expected to consist of Pettersson, Chytil, goal-scorer Jake DeBrusk, the snakebitten Nils Höglander, Conor Garland, and a free agent signing or two, Sherwood could utilize his strong forecheck to wrangle a role as a finisher on one of these two lines.

Can Sherwood Continue to Smash NHL Hitting Stats?

Hits made in 2024–25: 460

Will Sherwood make over/under 460 hits?: Under

As great as it would be to see Sherwood smash another NHL hit record, physically speaking, it’s likely too much for him to bear. Crossing stats from the first and last ten games of the season, it’s clear the hit total took a toll on Sherwood. In the first ten games, Sherwood had 67 hits, making this an average of 6.7 hits per game. In the final ten games, he had 58, nothing to snooze at, but still something to keep in mind. Drawing from previous seasons’ stats, Sherwood had 234 hits in 2023–24. While he did play ten less games that season, this still averages out to 3.44 per game, nearly 2.5 less than his average from 2024–25. Placing first in the NHL in hits again isn’t out of the picture, but making 460 in back-to-back seasons is highly unlikely.
