Nashville Predators Captain Out Week-to-Week

October 26, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

We’ve got some injury news to share this weekend. News emerged that Nashville Predators defenceman and team captain Roman Josi is out week-to-week with an upper-body injury. The team announced it has no relation to his POTS diagnosis that was revealed in June.

Nashville Predators Captain Roman Josi Out Week-to-Week

It’s uncertain when exactly the injury happened, but his ice time was limited to 18 minutes, nine seconds in Thursday’s 2-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks. The 35-year-old has only played for Nashville in his 15-year NHL career. The Bern, Switzerland native has a goal and four assists for five points in eight games so far this season.

He’s averaged 24:05 in ice time so far this campaign. Josi has a Corsi for of 58.1 and a relative Corsi of 14.2. Josi has 191 goals and 538 assists for 729 points in 970 career games. Nashville originally drafted him in the second round, 38th overall of the 2008 NHL Draft.

Josi won the Norris Trophy for the league’s top defenceman in the 2019-20 season. He’s also been a three-time NHL All-Star.

The veteran blueliner is also part of the Team Switzerland squad for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Barring disaster, he should be ready to go for that prestigious tournament.

What It Means

Josi is one of the driving forces for the Predators. He’s been one of the most underrated blueliners in the league due to his steady all-around game. Nashville did manage to beat the Los Angeles Kings in a 5-4 shootout victory.

The Predators did get some good news in getting Nicolas Hague back for his first game of the season. Hague was acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights in a trade over the summer.

Getting Hague back is good news, but there’s no question the Predators will miss their captain. Nashville is tied for fourth in the Central Division with the Chicago Blackhawks.
