It’s a cold, barren landscape – the ground upon which people stand as hockey drifts into the doldrums accompanied by the dog days of winter (!!). When will hockey return, and when will the Colorado Avalanche take the ice again? The verdict is still out, but one thing is certain: when hockey eventually makes a triumphant return, fans will be treated to some of the best centers in the world. That was the hot topic of a recent debate between NHL.com writers: which center will be the best in the NHL in three seasons?

It’s fair to assume that Connor McDavid is on the list, but Nathan MacKinnon is also a lock, and he proved during last year’s playoffs why. He’ll only be 28 in three years. He’ll also be sporting a brand new contract by then. Here’s to hoping he has his name on the Stanley Cup by then.
By the time Nathan MacKinnon is 28, Gabriel Landeskog and Cale Makar will have new contracts as well, and along with Mikko Rantanen’s big contract, the Avalanche will likely be tight against the cap. So, maximizing the next three years of Mackinnon’s contract will play a key role in bringing a Stanley Cup back to Colorado. Betting on the Avs to win the Stanley Cup is a safe bet, especially with playoff Nathan MacKinnon on the roster.
In the meantime though, all there is to do is debate who is going to score the most goals next season, and again Burgundy and Blue #29 makes an appearance on the debate list.

Here’s a fun announcement: The Colorado Eagles just revealed new home and away jerseys, and they’re pretty slick:

Do those blue jerseys remind you of anything?
The blueberries are back, and they look nice in this “Colorado Sky” collection for the Eagles. Plus, the white jerseys are solid as well. So, these are nice additions to the Eagles’ home and away jersey collection.
Regardless of when the new season starts, there are clearly going to be some adjustments. The NHL is discussing all possibilities. Will there be a shortened season? How will division realignment work, if that’s the route the NHL takes? Will hub cities play an important role in keeping teams and players safe? [Read more: NHL.com]

The work Joe Sakic has done to take the Avalanche from basement dwellers to Stanley Cup contenders in just three seasons is nothing short of amazing.
In other hockey news, the King, Henrik Lundqvist, is getting some new digs to protect his noggin and the artwork is pretty impressive:

Finally, let’s end with an awesome picture of young Elias Pettersson, one of the more talented up and coming centers in the NHL. Here he is thanking his fans and supporters for the birthday wishes:
