The Colorado Eagles did not expect much from the second-year player and got more than what they bargained for.
It was such a small signing over the summer last year that the Colorado Eagles never even announced it. The two-way AHL contract of 27-year old Mark Senden has paid off for the Colorado Eagles. For a player that was supposed to play mostly for the Utah Grizzlies, the forward has been nothing but consistent in Loveland.

The former North Dakota Fighting Hawks captain spent almost all of last season with the Florida Everblades (FLA at the time). Senden would only see 11 games in the AHL with the Charlotte Checkers (FLA) and tally no points. He finished the year with the Everblades with a Kelly Cup in hand and 15 points in the playoffs. This caught the eye of the Colorado Eagles and they signed Senden to a two-way one-year AHL deal.

Since then, Senden has played 61 AHL games for the Eagles and netted eight goals himself. Besides, the 15 assists that he has on his scoresheet. Head coach Aaron Schneekloth has used Senden on all four lines, playing both center and left wing. Injuries forced the Eagles to put Senden into the lineup early in the season and he never looked back. He has been a pest in the neutral zone, making it difficult for the opposing team to get through. Despite his five foot ten-inch frame, Senden packs quite a hit too. He’s often seen hitting players, separating them from the puck, and stealing it.

Senden is in position for an extension with the Eagles over the summer and has been one of the biggest surprises this season. He came onto the roster as an unknown player and has now secured a spot in the lineup every night. Having played under 150 professional games will make him appealing to management as he’s not considered a veteran with the player development rule. In order to rebuild the Eagles, they should not hesitate to re-sign him.
