The Kings will report for training camp in less than a week. Their season opener is October 7th against the Colorado Avalanche. Perry will be unavailable for camp, the preseason, and the beginning of the season.

Perry’s debut with the Kings will depend on how his recovery goes and if there are any setbacks.

Delayed Debut

Perry joined the Kings this summer for his 21st NHL season. The Kings are hoping Perry can help the team overcome the hump in the playoffs. The Kings have been eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers each of the last four seasons. All four eliminations have come in the first round.

Perry has experience in the Stanley Cup Final. He helped the Oilers reach the Final in each of the last two seasons. In addition, he has appeared in four others, including winning the Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007.

Better Now Than April

While playing without Perry will be tough, but it is important to understand it could be worse. The Kings expect to make the playoffs, with or without Perry. The team hopes to see Perry’s influence help the team improve their playoff positioning, such as earning home-ice advantage. Above all, the Kings’ goal to make a playoff run and possible win the franchise’s third Stanley Cup.

Being without Perry now is a far better reality for the Kings than being without him during the stretch run of the season.
