Andrei Buyalsky picked by the Colorado Avalanche with the 92nd selection in the draft

Avalanche take a big swing with their third round pick

With the 92nd pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, the Colorado Avalanche have selected overage forward Andrei Buyalsky from Kazakhstan.

Having been passed over in each of the last two drafts, Buyalsky is a 6’3 center who spent last season playing for Dubuque of the USHL. He is set to join the University of Vermont next season.

Buyalsky is a volume shooter who is a very strong skater and uses his size well. Being older than most of his opponents last season allowed him to play a power-forward like style and we will see if he’s able to transition that game into the NCAA where he will be up against stronger competition.

Despite being tall and using his body while the puck is on his stick, Buyalsky was far too content playing on the perimeter and will need to improve his defensive game if he’s going to be a professional player.

The newest Avs prospect was ranked 106 among North American skaters.

Oh and he once did “The Forsberg” in a game:
